The Indestructible Jews

“If [David’s] sons forsake My law and do not walk in My judgments, if they break My statutes and do not keep My commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless, My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, nor allow My faithfulness to fail. My covenant I will not break nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips. Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David: His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me; it shall be established forever like the moon, even like the faithful witness in the sky.” (Psalm 89:30-37)

Christian leaders in the past taught (and some today believe) that G-d has forsaken Israel because they forsook Him. They believe that the Church has replaced Israel and that there is no purpose for the natural Israel that exists in the Middle East. The above Scripture negates the possibility that G-d has broken His Covenants with them. Quite the opposite, G-d Himself declared, “If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, says the L-rd” (Jeremiah 31:37, also Ezekiel 16:63).

Why would the G-d of all the earth treat Israel so preferentially? Why would G-d proclaim that only if the ordinances of the moon and the stars depart from before the L-rd will the seed of Israel cease from being a nation before Him? (Jeremiah 31:35-36). To answer these questions, one needs only to look at the origins of Israel.

In the story of Abraham, the birth of Ishmael is described as being a physical, natural occurrence, he having been born of a slave woman. On the contrary, the birth of Isaac was supernatural, the result of G-d’s divine intervention. Divine Intervention has been referred to as “the suspension of the ordinary law … and the interposition of the Divine hand to do things beyond that which man may attain… Intervention is the state in which the L-rd is the actor, and man is acted upon.”*

*Wade Taylor from “End-time Divine Intervention”

Since Sarah was devoid of the natural means to procreate in her own flesh, G-d Himself provided the ‘egg’ needed to produce a child with Abraham’s seed. This union produced a supernatural, indestructible race of people–– indestructible because G-d is eternal and anything that is His cannot be destroyed by man, “[David’s] seed I will make to endure forever…" (Psalm 89:29).

This is not to be confused with G-d’s supernatural implantation of His seed in Mary’s womb, which produced a sinless man––100% man and 100% G-d. It was G-d's seed that determined the blood of Mary's baby and the “life of the creature is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). Therefore, G-d’s life was in Jesus, sinless and pure.

In quite a different way, G-d regards the nation of Israel as His offspring, the only race of people whom the Almighty calls His own–– His own because He created them for His own purposes. G-d warned Pharaoh, “Let My people go!” Israel is even declared to be G-d’s inheritance, “For the L-rd’s portion is His people, Jacob his allotted inheritance” (Deut. 32:9, Psalm 78:71, Isaiah 19:25). G-d says that the people of Israel are “close to His heart” (Psalm 148:14) and “engraved on His hand” (Isaiah 49:16).http://haderekministries.com/index.php/articles/59-jewish-roots/47-chosen-people

Israel is the only nation that was formed and named by G-d Himself (Deuteronomy 26:15). From its very beginning, even while Israel was held captive in Egypt, G-d called the collective offspring of Jacob, His “firstborn son” (Exodus 4:22). It is the only nation that G-d “guards” (Deut. 32:10, 11) and compares to “the apple of His eye” (Deuteronomy 32:10, Zechariah 2:8). Israel is the only nation that the Bible reveals has a guardian angel (the archangel Michael) watching over its affairs (Daniel 12:1).

G-d describes Israel as the “center (Heb. ‘navel’) of the earth” (Ezekiel 38:12), implying it is the place of life-giving nourishment. G-d even revealed that He determined the boundaries of the nations of the earth according to the sons of Israel (Deut. 32:8). http://haderekministries.com/index.php/articles/52-current-events/227-who-holds-the-title-to-the-land-of-israel And most importantly, Israel was the only nation on earth that was given instructions on how to approach G-d and maintain a relationship with the Almighty through obedience to His law.

Israel is the only nation with whom G-d has made unconditional promises––eternal covenants. For instance:

  • Genesis 17:7 – To be Israel’s G-d…
  • Genesis 17:8 – To possess the land of Canaan…
  • Genesis 17:9 – The Covenant of Circumcision…
  • Psalm 89:29-37 – That David’s offspring would sit on the throne of Israel forever…
  • Psalm 89:29-37 – That Israel will live forever…
  • Ezekiel 37:26 – An everlasting Covenant of Peace with G-d…

“‘For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,’ says the L-rd, who has mercy on you.” (Isaiah 54:10)

Due to the special nature of this relationship, G-d warned Israel that if she forsook the L-rd, she would suffer curses and plagues and be removed from the land He gave them, “Then the L-rd will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other…” (Deuteronomy 28:64). Yet G-d promised that when they recall G-d’s blessings and curses and return to the L-rd and obey His voice, “…that the L-rd your G-d will bring you back from captivity and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the L-rd your G-d has scattered you… Then the L-rd your G-d will bring you to the land which your fathers possessed and you shall possess it.” (Deuteronomy 30:5)

In fulfillment of this promise, after WW II, in spite of all that was against the new State of Israel in 1948––the many nations opposing it and its geography being indefensible––G-d ordained its rebirth and has preserved the nation for His name’s sake.

“Before she was in labor, she gave birth; before her pain came, she delivered a male child. Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children.” (Isaiah 66:7, 8)

Eventually, Israel will be the chief of the nations as G-d described (Jeremiah 31:7) and the wealth of the Gentiles will flow into the coffers of its ruler.

“Therefore your gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day or night, that men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles…” (Isaiah 60:11)

Then G-d will judge the nations that have held Israel captive and who treated her badly…

“‘Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the L-rd, ‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel; for behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, and no one shall make him afraid. For I am with you says the L-rd, to save you; though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not make a complete end of you. But I will correct you in justice and will not let you go altogether unpunished.’” (Jeremiah 30:10, 11)

Theodor Herzl, the father of modern Zionism, prophetically declared the following.

“…oppression and persecution cannot exterminate us. No nation on earth has survived such struggles and sufferings as we have gone through… Whoever can, will, and must perish, let him perish. But the distinctive nationality of Jews neither can, will, nor must be destroyed… It will not be destroyed; this is shown during two thousand years of appalling suffering… Whole branches of Judaism may wither and fall, but the trunk will remain.
